The zone surrounding the stage contains bars, restaurants and is known under the name of Wrigleyville.
It is there that evolve/move the Cubs of Chicago of the National league in major Ligue of baseball since 1916. Before moving in the Soldier Field, the Bears of Chicago played their home matches in Wrigley Field between 1921 and 1970. The building is called " The Friendly Confines" , an expression popularized by " Mr. Cub" , Ernie Banks. It has a capacity of 41.160 places and has 63 private boxings (private continuations) for most fortunate.
History
Today, almost all the teams of the major Ligue of baseball have or want a new stage, however the Cubs continue to play Wrigley Field without wanting to replace it.Nested in the streets of Chicago, Wrigley Field remains one of the oldest parks of Baseball. In 1914, Charles Weeghman decides to build a new ground for Chicago Whales of Federal League and wants to build it with the angle of the streets Clark and Addison. Initially named Weeghman Park, the construction of the park of 14.000 places began the February 23rd 1914 and an official ceremony take place the March 4th 1914. It had only one level of platform in form of " V" , with steps out of wooden in the out-field. The erection of the stage rose with $250 000 dollars and it was finished the April 23rd 1914 when Whales played their first part in residence against Kansas City Packers (victory of Chicago, 9-1). Original dimensions of Weeghman Park were of 105,1 meters (left field), 134,1 (central field), and 108,5 (right field). It was the residence of Chicago Whales/Federals during two years before Federal League goes bankrupt.
One of the other teams of Chicago, the Cubs, played West Side Park until Charles Weeghman buys the club and moves in his stage in 1916. The first match of the Cubs of Chicago in Weeghman Park was the April 20th 1916 with a victory over the Reds of Cincinnati in 11 handles (score 7-6). In 1920, Weeghman Park was renamed Cubs Park , and Weeghman sold the club to William Wrigley Jr. Starting from 1922, then in 1923, Cubs Park underwent several restorations. The platforms were moved and of the steps out of wooden were added to increase the capacity of 20.000 places. Important installations started in 1926, when the stage was famous Wrigley Field. A higher level was added to the platform, the playing field was lowered, and the steps in the left field were removed. The capacity was increased in 38.396 places. Other restorations were completed in Wrigley Field in 1937. Steps were added in the out-field and the famous manual display board (8,2 by 22,8 meters) was placed behind these steps in the central field. The most distinctive element was the plantation of ivy at the base of the external wall. Lighting for Wrigley Field had at the origin being installed for the season 1942. However because of the implication of the the United States in the Second world war and the bombardment of Pearl Harbor, Phil Wrigley made gift of the lights to the government.
Since the years 1940, Wrigley Field changed little. In 1982, an electronic babillard was placed under the display board of the central field. In 1981, Tribune Company buys the Cubs and the company started to speak because of installing lights after the season 1981. However, a group of supporters fought to remotely hold the night Baseball of Wrigley Field. The May 13rd 1982, the legislature of the Illinois made baseball of night a violation in an establishment which had not organized night sports before July 1st 1982. In 1984, when Cubs were in playoffs, the major Ligue of baseball had threatened the team because if it disputed the matches of post-season in the future, the plays would be transferred in a site with lights. Lastly, the February 23rd 1988, the Cubs decided to install lightings with Wrigley Field. The first play of night was planned for the August 8th 1988. However, the match was stopped because of the rain after four handles, then deferred the following day. In 1989, private continuations (private boxings) were built on the mezzanine which in the beginning was occupied by the stands of press and of broadcasting which were moved with the upper floor directly behind the marble (home punt). After the season 2003, Cubs added 200 seats directly behind the marble carrying the spectators even nearer of the ground. The tradition does not have escaped with this more because the brick wall located behind the marble always remains. After the season 2005, Cubs added 1.800 more seats to the steps, this increasing the capacity of a little more than 41.000 places. A general-purpose building lodging a restaurant with topic and cages of launching for players will be built on the west coast of Wrigley Field in the future.
Wrigley Field organized three Match of stars of the major League of baseball: in 1947, 1962 and 1990.
Description
Today, Wrigley Field is the last stage of Federal League still upright. Even with its lightings, it remains one of the oldest park of Baseball. The district around Wrigley Field, called Wrigleyville, is filled with supporters of Cubs the days of match. The Ballhawks are fans called to wait on the Waveland avenue to catch the homeruns during the match. Steps are located on the roofs of certain buildings close to Wrigley Field. Ivy still covers brick the walls of outside and the display board is still actuated manually. Flags at the top of the display board still point out the fans so yes or not the Cubs gained the day before, and where they are in the classification. Because the enclosure is surrounded by the district of Wrigleyville, the parking can be a nightmare for the matches. It is recommended to the supporters to take the red line of Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) at the station of Addison. Although it was the only residence of Cubs since many years now, Wrigley Field sheltered more American football that any other stage of the nation. The only thing which misses today in Wrigley Field, it is Harry Caray, which was accustomed to singing " Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at the time of the 7th handle.
