Wormhout is located in the Houtland and is crossed by two River, the Peene Becque and the Yser.

History
The name of Wormhout comes from old man-Saxon the " Wermod" who indicates a plant of the family of the armoises and wormwoods. The name of this plant is " wormwood" in modern English; it is the correspondence term for term of " WORM-hout" in Flemish.The first known mention of Wormhout dates from the 7th century, it is in the cartulaire of the abbey of Sithiu, currently Saint-Omer. It mentions the donation made by a man of named well Heremarus with Saint Winoc. It is about a field named Woromhold on which Winoc builds a monastery. The Comté of Wormhout is created in 1067. In 1566, the church is ransacked by the Gueux. It is rebuilt in 1578. The city is occupied in 1940 by the Germans at the time of the Second world war and released in September 1944.
