The Worldwide organization of Tourism (OMT) is a related organization the United Nations intended to promote and develop tourism.
Its seat is with Madrid in Spain.
History
The OMT succeeded in
1975 an governmental organization founded in
1925 under the name of International union of the official organizations of tourist propaganda.
Objectives
Its objectives are to promote and develop tourism in order to contribute to the economic expansion, international comprehension, peace, prosperity like with the universal respect and the observation of the rights and fundamental human freedoms without distinction of race of sex of language or religion.
Composition
In 2006, it is composed of 150 countries, seven territories and some 300 members affiliated representing the private sector, of the educational establishments, associations of professionals of tourism and the local tourist authorities.
Operation
The general meeting brings together all the members and sits every 2 years. The general secretary is appointed for 3 years. The executive council includes/understands 26 members, elected by the general meeting for 4 years. Manpower of the general secretary of the OMT are of 82 civils servant. The general secretary is French Francesco Frangialli, former student of the ENA, old directing of Tourism.
