Worldwide organization against torture

The worldwide organization against torture ( OMCT ) is an international coalition of non-governmental organizations created in 1986 with Geneva.

Goal and organization

Its principal goal is to fight against arbitrary detentions, the Torture, the executions summary and extra-judicial, forced disappearances and any other treatment cruel, inhuman or degrading. Its network consists of 282 local, national and regional organizations, based in the whole world.

The international Secretariat of the OMCT is based in Geneva. He provides a medical, legal and/or social individualized assistance to hundreds of victims of torture and diffuses each day of the urgent calls in the whole world, in order to protect the individuals and to fight against impunity. Special programs make it possible to give a support for certain particularly vulnerable categories like the women, the children and the defenders of the human rights. Within the framework of its activities, the OMCT also subjects individual communications and alternative reports/ratios to the mechanisms of the the United Nations, at the sessions of the Conseil of the human rights of UNO or the committees founded by the specific treaties of UNO.

The OMCT publishes handy guides designed like tool of direct action in order to meet the needs for a person seeking to use the international mechanisms and the bodies of U.N. treaties to fight precise cases of Torture.

The OMCT enjoys the advisory statute near the following institutions: the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the International organization of Work, African Commission of the Human rights and the People, the International organization of the francophonie and the the Council of Europe.
