Worldloppet

The Wordloppet gathers a series of races of Ski touring long distance (between 90 and 42 km) through 14 country in the whole world. Created in 1978 with Uppsala in Sweden, this international organization aims at linking the marathons of ski in the various countries in order to make them more visible and more popular.

The race most recently registered (1999) with the program is that of Jizerská padesátka as a Czech Republic. Its French stage is the Transjurassienne, long 76 km between Lamoura and Mouthe. The longest stage and emblématique is the Vasaloppet ( race of Wasa ) in Sweden which exists since 1922. Each continent has its stage of Worldloppet today.

Each year, approximately 80000 skiers take share with one or more these competitions which join together professional and amateurs. The majority of the races are done in traditional style but some are also done in skating. A classification MADE (International federation of Ski) is established each year for the long distance.
