The world Numeric library is a Numeric library launched by UNESCO and announced on October 17th, 2007. It was officialized by a signed agreement with Paris, at the time of the 34e session of the General conference of UNESCO, between Abdul Waheed Khan, general sub-manager of UNESCO, and James H. Billigton, librarian of the Congress.
The world Numeric library aims at to digitize and to place at the disposal on Internet documents of any nature and representative of the world inheritance. It must in particular facilitate the education and the research throughout the world. It must as give the opportunity to the Developing country to make known their inheritance in the same way as the developed Pays. The project fits more largely in the objective than with UNESCO to safeguard the “memory of humanity”, and constitutes the obvious result of former initiatives like Mémoire of the world.
To conclude this mission, UNESCO took as principal partner the Bibliothèque of the Congress.

The project functions in the six official languages of UNESCO (Arab, English, Chinese, Spanish, French, Russian) like in Portuguese considering the implication of the Brésil in the project.
