World music
World music is a generic term - and a little hold-all - which covers all the musics which do not form part of the principal currents of the pop music, of the Classical music, of the Jazz, the Rap, the Techno… and which contains components known as “ethnic”. Musics of the world and music of the world are synonymous expressions. The more expressive term of " sound system mondiale" was employed by the journalists of Actuel and Radio Nova as of the Eighties to describe the universalization of the musical inheritance and the interbreeding of the influences, Paris had an important role of crossroads of artists in the emergence of this scene with producers like Martin Meissonier or Philippe Constantin.
The term recovers as well the Pop music Tiers-monde, the European pop music which uses the influences of the third world and the traditional music especially but not exclusively of the third world. However in certain countries (the United States in particular) one can find French Musique (of variety or rock'n'roll), by ex, classified with the ray world music of department stores of discs.
The term is used mainly at ends Marketing and of classification, sometimes referring to any kind of foreign music, in particular in foreign language.
Obviously, the various kinds of ethnic music which are gathered under the term “world music” in common do not have anything a “musical” point of view or “genetics” which can justify the term of “world music”.
