World festival of negro Arts
In 1966, the world Festival of negro Arts , organized on the initiative of Léopold Sédar Senghor, constituted an event without precedent in the cultural history, for the first time a solemn and festive assertion of the Négritude.
Objectives
According to the president-poet, it was a question “of arriving to a better international comprehension and interraciale, of affirming the contribution of the artists and black writers to the large universal currents of thought and of making it possible to the black artists of all the horizons to confront the results of their research” .History
- Initially envisaged in 1961, 1963 and 1965, the first festival was finally held with Dakar (Senegal) of 1st at April 24th 1966. Personalities of all horizons horizons took part in it: Andre Malraux, Aime Césaire, Duke Ellington, Joséphine Baker, Langston Hughes and well of others. All arts were represented: visual arts, literature, music, dance, cinema, etc a dynamic museum had been especially built for the circumstance with Soumbédioune.

the third Festival world of negro Arts (Fesman III) will take place in Dakar of 1st at June 22nd 2008 on the topic of the " Rebirth africaine".
