World days of youth 2008

The world Journées of youth 2008 will take place in the town of Sydney in Australia. It was, before the official confirmation of the pope Benoît XVI at the time of the closing mass of JMJ 2005 the August 21st 2005, the médiatisée candidature. Escapes, in particular of the 12 young guests of Benoit XVI the day before, made it possible to know what was envisaged.

The JMJ will take place of the from July 15th to 20th 2008 on the topic suggested by the pontifical Council for the Laic ones: “ You will receive a force, that of the Holy Spirit which will go down on you. You will be then my witnesses (ac 1,8) ”. The meeting of the young people with the pope will take place with the Olympic Park of Sydney.

The cardinal archbishop of Sydney, George Pell, declared himself enchanted decision of the pope Benoît XVI: “It is a great privilege has it says, to see the world Day of the youth entrusted to the Church in Australia. The JMJ proposes to make known the face of Christ and the reality of the love of god to the youth of the world. I hope that many young people of Australia and world will come and look further into their faith through the experiment of the world Day of the Youth of Sydney. Sydney is a beautiful city and Australia a large country and I am in a hurry to accommodate the pope Benoît XVI and the youth of the world for the JMJ of 2008. They are all welcome””.

The cardinal expressed his gratitude with all those whose work helped so that the request for Sydney is a success. “I am particularly grateful, said the archbishop, of strong federal support of the governments and the State of the Wales News of the South, and the council of the City. The partnership with the governments clearly were a factor of the success of our request”.

Before the official announcement, the actor and realizer Mel Gibson were solicited by Archevêque of Sydney, Mgr George Pell, to obtain his participation in order to recreate the scenes of the last hours of the Christ in the streets of Sydney, if the city were indicated for the event. The scenes should be largely inspired by film “the Passion of Christ”.
