The world day without tobacco takes place each year the May 31st since 1988 under the aegis of the the World Health Organization (WHO).
WHO organizes the event for the first time the April 7th in 1987; the following year the date is definitively fixed at May 31st. The purpose of the day is to make pass to a total awakening on the dangers of the Tabac for the health of the consumers like theirs entourage: on 650 million smokers, five million dies each year because of problems of Santé involved in the Tabagisme according to the organization.

- May 31st, 2003: “Film without tobacco, mode without tobacco”, in reference to the promotional part played by tographic industry Cinema and the mode;
- May 31st, 2002: “Sports without tobacco - Play properly”, in opposition to the nicotinism and the Publicité in the field of the Sport;
- May 31st, 2001: “The Passive smoking keep silent - Let us clean the air”;
- May 31st, 2000: “Tobacco keep silent, you made not misuse”;
- May 31st, 1999: “Leave the package behind you”, in reference to the Méthodes of stop of the consumption tobacco smoke;
- May 31st, 1998: “To grow without tobacco”.
