The world Series of Baseball (in English: World Series ) is the final series of the major Ligue of baseball (MLB). It takes place in October, after the regular season and opposes the champions of the National league and the American Ligue. Currently, the series disputes with best of seven meetings, the first team with four victories taking down the title.
The first world Series was disputed in 1903. The Americans of Boston carried out by their launcher Cy Young beat the Pirates of Pittsburgh with 5 victories for 3 defeats. In 1904, the Giants of New York, champion of the National league refuse to meet the Pilgrims of Boston to the pretext that the champion of the American League was lower to them. Since 1905, the world series is played best of seven meetings, except for the seasons 1919 with 1921 where decided itself with best on nine meetings.
The Yankees of New York gained the greatest number of world Series (26) including 5 consecutively between 1949 and 1954. In 2001, the Diamondbacks of Arizona gain the major title after only 3 years of existence.
The test takes the name of World Series in reference to the World' S Championship Series which disputed 1884 with 1891 between the champion of the national league and that of American Association, a major league disappeared at the end of the 19th century.
