World Industries is a company of Skateboard.
History
In 1987, the freestyler Steve Rocco was returned of Sims . It bought then 500 skateboards with Skip Engblom (Santa Monica Airlines) and joined John Lucero, of Black Label, to assemble a store together. Lucero was replaced soon by Rodney Mullen. At the time, in addition to Steve Rocco, the company counted Jesse Martinez, Jeff Hartsel and Mark Gonzales in its rows. The company took seriously its take-off in]. At the time, the relations with the traditional companies were tended. Initially called SMA (like Santa Monica Airlines ) and then SMA World Industries , the company of changing name when one announced to Rocco that it could not use the name SMA any more. The beginning of name then was left fallen and the name became simply World Industries .
Deciding to leave Powell-Peralta, Rodney Mullen and Mike Vallely joined World Industries and invested there even more money.
The small and innovative company being, it was able to adapt to the changing world of the skateboard and to follow the progressive changes of the shape of the boards. Times were hard in the industry of the skateboard, but while leaving the restricted and experimental editions especially, World Industries developed new boards, more adapted to the skate of street of the time. Largest company, wedged by their large productions, could not follow. The original drawings of the boards of WI , primarily inspired by the worlds of the Cartoons , dissociated even more the company on a rather uniform market.
In 1989, Mark Gonzales left World Industries, eager to launch its own company. It took Jason Lee with him and founded the company Blind.
Answering the desire of innovation of the cofounder of H-Street, Mike Ternasky, World Industries launched a partnership with H-Street, of which was born the company Plan B. The agreement was that World Industries is the manufacturer and distributer, while Ternasky would deal with putting the mark on the market, at the beginning of San Diego. Ternasky became a member of the TEAM . It was unfortunately killed in an car accident in 1994. Plan B separated from World Industries and was then managed by Danny Way and Colin McKay. It closed in 1998, to be started again in 2005 by Danny Way.
In September 1993, Rick Howard left WI with seven others riders and launched the company Girl. When in January 1994 Girl launched the mark Chocolate , it recovered another group of skateurs of WI. World Industries with developed the additional marks Darkstar, Speed Demons and Tensor in the following years.
In July 2002, WI was sold with Globe Internation Ltd..
Let us note that certain drawings raised by the boards of WI are discussed by the conservatives, in particular those showing Devil Man (the mascot) making a finger of honor. WI is also illustrated in the Fingerboard creating Fingerpark.
