The world Agence antidopage (AMA) is an independent governmental organization, who finances, educates and sensitizes the fight with the doping. It was created the November 10th 1999. Its seat is with Montreal.
The Agency opened its doors the November 10th 1999 with Lausanne to promote and coordinate the fight against doping. It is based on an equal representation between the public authorities and the Olympique movement.
In 2001, the AMA decides to install its main office with Montreal, inaugurated in 2002.
The countryside for the election of the new president of the AMA clarifies in 2007 two quite different approaches. Laxism among Anglo-Saxons and rigor for the CIO and in Europe. The French Jean-François Lamour, supported candidate by the CIO and the European nations (in particular) preaches the rigor. This approach is considered to be excessive by the Anglo-Saxons who organize a denigration campaign of the former Olympic champion of fencing and propels to the row of candidate to the election an unknown: John Fahey, a former Australian politician not having any sporting past. Japan joined the camp of the Anglo-Saxons carried out by the United States, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The program of this native Australian candidate of New Zealand goes against the basic principles of the fight antidopage: authorization of the cannabis, corticoids and antagonistic beta-2, in particular. Europe and the CIO could leave the AMA if this program laxist of fight antidopage were applied.
