WordPad

WordPad is a basic Word processing which is included in all the versions of Windows starting from 95.

It allows a working basic and the impression, which includes/understands neither of orthographical Correcteur, nor of management of the styles. It is good to write letters or short texts but is not powerful enough for many tasks or long relationship with graphs, long texts, books or of the manuscripts.

Format of safeguard of the data

WordPad is compatible with the format poorly standardized rtf, like with the files " Word 6.0 for Windows" and previous models of Word. WordPad for Windows XP cannot save under format DOC. (but only TXT or rtf) .

WordPad is the only product officially maintained by Microsoft (except Microsoft Word) which can read or to convert files WRI created by Microsoft Write but cannot save under this format.

Positioning

WordPad was introduced initially into Windows 95 to replace the old man Microsoft Write who was integrated in the old versions of Windows. The code-source of WordPad is distributed by Microsoft like example in Microsoft foundation class 3.2 and more, slightly before the Windows 95 exit. It is always available to download on the site MSDN.

WordPad profits from its pre installation as a component of the Windows system.

If one compares it with other data-processing software for Windows, free available, like AbiWord or OpenOffice.org Writer, it seems more limited.

This limitation could be voluntary on behalf of Microsoft, in order to encourage with the purchase of Microsoft Word.
