Wood of Misedon

the wood of Misedon or Forêt of Misedon constitutes the north-eastern element of old and vast a Forêt located at the borders of the departments of the Mayenne in the east, and Ille-et-Vilaine in the west, which included/understood, of the North-East in south-west: the wood of Misedon , the wood of the Gravels (between Saint-Pierre-the-Court and Brûlatte), the wood of Éffretais (between Saint-Pierre-the-Court and the Gravel) and the forest of Pertre (between Mondevert and Pertre).

The wood of Misedon , as for him, is located between Bourgneuf-the- theForest (in north), Saint-Ouën-of-Roofs (in the North-East), Olivet (in the east), Port-Brillet (in the south) and Launay-Villiers (in the west). It is bordered in the west by the Vicoin. It is located on the communes of Olivet and Port-Brillet.

Toponymy

History

This wood, which extended from the borough of Olivet to the borough of Launay-Villiers in 1444, over a 4 km length (East-West) on 3 km (North-South), always belonged to the prerogative of the Maison of Laval.

In 1292, Guy VIII of Laval allotted it to the children of his second wife, Jeanne de Brienne , and it turned over with the châtellenie of Olivet to the elder branch by the marriage of Guy XII of Laval and Jeanne of Laval-Tinténiac .

In 1680, written to the Clerk of Flécheray , it was almost reduced all in coppice for the maintenance of the forging mill of Port-Brillet.

This forest constituted the first " nid" and the first asylum of the Chouannerie, since in the vicinity was there, to Saint-Ouën-of-Roofs, the Closerie of the Pear trees , remains family Cottereau. Jean Chouan found death there the July 28th 1794.

Sequestered during the French revolution, wood was restored, under the terms of the law of the December 5th 1814, with the Prince de Tarente, which leased it with the ironmasters of Port-Brillet, and sold it the March 21st 1818 at the Company Ribald-Collet-Bazouin. Acquisition included/understood, in addition to Misedon ( 528 ha ), Frageu ( 99 ha ) and Éffretais ( 189ha ).
