History

Associated a long time with Bihorel, of many charts, (whose Google Earth ) still reverses these two communes. Wood-Guillaume, at the origin Boscumguillelmi owes his name with that of a country cottage which was built in this place by the mother of William the Conqueror about the year 1040. But its origins are older still, undoubtedly Gallo-Roman, since it was found there an arrow out of stone of Gallic time, currencies of Bronze and Or, and money Romans and gold currencies.

The lords of Wood-Guillaume appear in the history. Initially at the time of the first crusade in 1096 and then in the wars of the 12th century: Matthieu of Wood-Guillaume, rider, was one of the companions of Of Guesclin.

A place of worship existed already at the 13th century but it was destroyed in 1415 by the English who gave Wood-Guillaume to Guy Bouteiller (1419) which had delivered Rouen to them.

It is at the end of the 15th century which the parish church of the Holy Trinity was built with the current site but it is not the building that we know today. It was increased and disorientated of 1869 to 1871, but an important part remains still nowadays in particular the old nave and the tower lantern. The stained glasses of the Master Verrier Boulanger go back to 1871.

In 1892, Wood-Guillaume and Bihorel, his neighbor, separate whereas they did only one and even commune.

From 1893 to 1984, beside the splendid vault of the Purification now unused and being used for the cultural events, one found the monastery of the Carmelite nuns with his craft industry of hosts, books and images.

To still note the presence of vineyards at the beginning of the 16th century, of bottle glassmakings in 1814 and a castle to the locality “Five Bonnets”, disappeared today.

With its pretty houses, its districts view-points on the heights of Rouen, at 5 minutes of the center town and the station and the proximity of the Green Forest domanial, Wood-Guillaume profits from calm and the space which make a very pleasant work or place of residence of it.
