Wolfgang Ketterle (born the October 21st 1957 with Heidelberg) is a German Physicien .
He is graduate in 1986 of the university Ludwig-Maximilian of Munich and of the Institut max Planck of quantum optic to Garching close to Munich. He is professor of physique to the Massachusetts Institute off Technology (MIT). In 2001, it received with Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman the Nobel Prize of physics " for the discovery of the Condensation of Bump-Einstein in gases and for projections in the study of the properties of these condensats". Its research activities are centered on cooling by Laser and the trapping of the cold atoms. He also discovered the Superfluidité in gases at “high temperature”.
Recently, he managed to observe a signature of superfluidity in a gas ultrafroid of lithium atoms. Thus, in certain situations, of the atoms fermionic acquire a behavior bosonic, as opposed to what predicted the Principle of Pauli.
He currently teaches at the American university of MIT.
