Woleai
The language woleai (of the name of the island Woleai) is a Langue austronésienne, spoken on the island about the same name (also called Wolea, Uleai U Oleai) and in the islands close to the State to Yap (which belongs to the Federated States of Micronesia).
Its code ISO 639-3 is woe .
At the time of the census of 1987 with Yap, there were 1.631 speakers of the woleai.
He is spoken in five inhabited islands which are: Woleai (Wottegai), Falalus, Seliap (Sulywap), Falalop (Falalap), Tegailap (Tagalap) and Lamotrek.
The following islands belong to the group but all are not inhabited: Paliau, Mariang, Eauripik, Faraulep, Elato, Ifaluk islands, eastern Caroline Islands (22 islands on the whole).

Writing of a syllabic type was discovered there in 1913 by Prof J. MacMillan Brown. It is horizontal writing which is written from left to right. The list published in 1914 comprises 51 graphèmes which represent all of the open syllables (Na, which been able, mä, Ru, bö) or sometimes closed (warr, tüt, bag) - or of pui type, me or nga, gkaa. In fact generally geometrical signs evoke sometimes the representation of the object describes by the syllable: warr (dugout) resembles a boat. It was more known only by 5 men on the island.
The president Joseph Urusemal is of Woleai.
