Wolbórz
Wolbórz is a Village of Poland which counts 2.200 inhabitants.
Geographical location
Wolbórz is in the district piotrowski ( powiat piotrowski ) which belongs to the Voïvodie de Łódź. It is located along the fast track connecting Warsaw to Katowice and Wrocław, between Tomaszów Mazowiecki and Piotrków Trybunalski.
History
At the 12th century, Wolbórz is a Fortified town where take place of the Marché S. In 1125, Wolbórz becomes the property of the bishop S of Cujavie and one their principal residences (until in 1818). In 1273, Lech II the Black grants the urban Privilège S to Wolbórz. In 1357, these privileges are confirmed and extended (Droit of Magdeburg). The city develops considerably and a subsidiary company of the Université of Cracow settles in Wolbórz. The place becomes also a point of concentration of the Polish army in the wars against the Teutoniques (1410, 1414, 1419, 1422). With the XV {{E}} and XVI {{E}} centuries, the city continues to thrive. In particular, the clothier production and the brewery activity develop. Very quickly, there is more than 100 clothiers, some breweries, 6 mills. In 1521, the city counts 5 church S.
With the XVII {{E}} and at the 18th century, the city is several times ransacked (wars, fires). In 1793, the city is annexed by the Prussia. In 1807, it is incorporated in the Duché of Warsaw and, in 1815, in the Royaume of the Congress. Wolbórz loses its statute of city in 1870. It is a sanction of the Tsar because the inhabitants of the city took part in the Insurrection of January.
Wolbórz is the , death and birthplace, undoubtedly Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski (Andreas Fricius Modrevius). It became Maire of the city in 1553.
