Woerdense Verlaat

Woerdense Verlaat is a village Dutch in the commune of Nieuwkoop in Holland-Southerner. The village is located at the edge of the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, at the place where Grecht and Kromme Mijdrecht meets.

History

The village was established starting from 1448, when a lock is built in the Grecht. The word verlaat indicates a type of lock.

Until 1989, the village belonged to three communes and two provinces. This complex situation has ended on January 1st, 1989: since, the village belongs entirely to the commune of Nieuwkoop as a Holland-Southerner.
