Witte de With

Witte Corneliszoon de With (March 28th 1599November 8th 1658) was an admiral of the navy Dutchwoman. He one of the rare Protestants was honoured like Chevalier about Saint Michel, by Louis XIII. Warnsinck describes it like " haï and fears by its men, avoided by its pars, and in permanent conflict with its supérieurs". It remains in the history of the Netherlands for two reasons: its courage without terminals and this character of most difficult. Its disputes with its superiors failed to lead it to decapitation in 1647. It was finally restores in its honor and its high positions.

Two balls mortally wound it at the time of the battle of Öresund against the Swedes. King Carl X Gustav of Sweden ordered embaumer and its mortal remains was initially exposed to the town hall of Helsingör in Denmark like a war treasure. Then it was exposed in large pump to the town hall of Copenhagen.
Le September 12th, 1659 its skin took the way towards Rotterdam, where it was inhuméé in large pump on October 7th following in the Large Church, also called church the St. Lawrence (Grote off Laurenskerk Rotterdam). A monument was set up in its honor.
