Witold Lutosławski (* January 25th 1913, Warsaw - † February 7th 1994, Warsaw), was a Compositeur and Leader Polish.
Biography
He studied the music with
Warsaw. During the
Second world war, he was prisoner of the Germans before escaping. He played like Pianiste in coffees to earn his living. Its first works were of tonal inspiration and were rejected by the Stalinisme under the pretext of “formalism”.
Initially influenced by Karol Szymanowski for its symphonic Variations (1939), it takes as a starting point the popular music of Mazovie for its Concerto for orchestra ordered by the leader Witold Rowicki which creates it in 1954. Its exploitation of the popular music points out that of Béla Bartók, to which it pays homage in 1954 with a funeral Musique .
In the Years 1950, it was tested with the Sérialisme, with its funeral music then with the random Musique with its Venetian Jeux . Posterior works are primarily orchestral, and it recorded them as leader. An integral of its orchestral works was recorded under the direction of Antoni Wit. Lutosławski also writes for voice, often starting from French poems: Three poems of Henri Michaux , Spaces of the night according to Robert Desnos.
It dedicated a certain number of its compositions to the largest interpreters of its time: Mstislav Rostropovitch, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Paul Sacher, AsSophie Mutter,…
He was prize winner of the Prix Ernst von Siemens in 1983, of the Grawemeyer Price in 1985, and the Prix of Kyoto in 1993.
