With the continuation of Slans is a Romance of Science-fiction, written by A.E. van Vogt and published for the first time in 1940.

Synopsis

Just as the Homo Sapiens succeeded the Homme of Cro-Magnon, Slan has to supplant it. Jommy Cross is a young person Slan, one of these mutants which the men pursue without pity. Slans indeed outclass the human ones in all the fields: they are telepathic, have two hearts and are of an undeniable at the same time physical superiority and mentale.
The mother of Jommy Cross-country race has just been assassinated by the henchmen of John Petty, the chief of the police force, Jommy Cross finds refuge at Kier Gray, the dictator of the planet, which is also Slan being made pass for human and which already protects in its entourage a Slan young person.

Comment

Few novels of quality milked with the mutants and have as a hero of the individuals equipped with capacities, but this one in fact incontestably part. In spite of its unquestionable age, it is of an extraordinary freshness, with in basic screen a true humanistic reflection on discrimination and the capacity (Slans, telepathic, being bet them in fact). It is also a “analysis” of telepathy and its consequences.

It is before all very a beautiful story which is devoured, where all the talent of storyteller of van Vogt at the same time inspired and rigorous is expressed. This novel develops very interesting ideas, just like it approaches multiple topics (eugenism, telepathy, altruism, class struggle, etc)

Van Vogt indicated that it took as a starting point the biographical novel of a bear to write its novel (to read Coil-Made Superman in perfect Futur ).
