With bottom Latin!
With bottom Latin! is a Pamphlet of Régis Messac published in 1933 with the editions of the open Window.
The book
This book presents the stake which represented, in
1933, and would still represent, partly, the teaching of the Latin
to the college and the college.
According to the partisans of the author, this question also sticks to those: single college, methods of teaching, overwork, reduction of the programs, superabundant load of work for the majority of the pupils, the constitution of classes of level by the chiefs of establishment, of the skirting of the sectorization by the families like with the opposition between scientists and arts persons.
Critical
- Maurice Parijanine, Humble the , C. 1936:
Our comrade Régis Messac appears to know the Latin very suitably. It is thus about the satisfaction of a resentment. (…) Simplistic the reasoning of Messac appears to me which supports especially on the practical uselessness of such or such discipline. In Culture, nothing is absolutely necessary. All contributes however to the formation of the spirit and leaves traces.
- Jean-Jacques Bridenne, Homage to Governed Messac, Fiction n° 48, November 1957:
At Régis Messac the humorist was inseparable from the thinker! And the feature is also characteristic at the very least in a literary study like Micromégas or in a teaching lampoon like With bottom Latin! that in its Utopia Valcrétin .
- Henri Frossard, On the Side of Asinus… , without mention of publication, 1963:
little book, which does not pay a mine, published in the collection: the Primary educations, it is an explosive, and of good quality, since it did not lose anything of its force. Since always, known as Régis Messac, the Culture is identified with the Humanités, humanities are it with the Latin , of right, as if one proposed to establish a magic contact. Thus let us see what is the Latin , since this one continues like an acquired force of an out-of-date idea, and that it lasts on its impetus, surrounded piously of a secular publicity. It is its perenniality which resulted in discovering virtues to him. Like if its users or its propagandists, not very sure of their fact, and not very proud, had sought to justify themselves. And their justifications return around some topics, always the same ones as Messac begins again a little with the manner of a conversation. With bottom Latin! , violent title, final title, title of battle!
