WipEout (series)

WipEout is a Série of video game of coursefuturist produces by Psygnosis then Sony Computer Entertainment. The pilot player of the futuristic machines high-speed on circuits of the F3000 League, a little with the image of the Formule 1 nowadays with this close which they do not roll but planes a such Aéroglisseur and has weapons surpuissantes (one of them, “Quake Disruptor” created a seismic wave which is propagated all along the circuit).

The large assets of this series are:

  • impression speed.
  • a band its techno created by recognized artists (like Prodigy or The Chemical Brothers). But the major part of this band its was carried out by Tim Wright (alias CoLD SToRaGE).
  • a “Jouabilité” perfectly adjusted which allows an accurate check of its vessel.
  • the small pocket, the note, the disc and graphic design of the play (logos, panels, typography…) conceived by The Designers very famous Republic in the electronic music and publicity.

This series is made up of six plays. Two others are in preparation: WipEout Pulsates on PSP and WipEout HD on PlayStation 3.

With its speed and its impressive fluidity for the time like its gameplay original (the control of the plate and the air-brakes), WipEout is certainly one of the plays which contributed the most to the success of the Playstation. The Saturn version is slightly less less fast and does not have the effects of transparencies which one can see on the other versions.

WipEout 2097/XL

Coming out date : 1997

Platform : PlayStation, Saturn, Windows, Amiga, Mac

The play proposes 4 basic vessels and 6 races. When the mode “challenge 1” is finished, two new races are released. Once the mode “challenge 2” is finished, the player has access to a new vessel which has all the characteristics pushed to the maximum. It is possible to play 2 by connecting two PlayStation or with Sega Saturn out of screen divided with 2 levers.

WipEout 64

Coming out date : 1998

Platform : Nintendo 64

This episode on Nintendo 64 with particulartié to propose to a mode 4 players in screen splity. The pieces of music of Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers disappear, replaced by a title of the Propellerheads " Bang one! ".

Wip3out

Coming out date : 1999

Platform : PlayStation

This episode occurs in year 2116, on the circuits of the F7200 league.

One of the rare plays to have a posting high-resolution at the time of first PlayStation. Eight vessels are available for ten different tracks. A prototype mode also makes it possible to play on the tracks which were not integrated into the play (they are not textured and comprise sometimes bugs). To note the release of a special version (" Wipeout 3: special edition") July 17th, 2000. This one adds eight circuits coming from the preceding episodes.

WipEout Fusion

Coming out date : 2002

Platform : PlayStation 2

Very waited, Wipeout Fusion disappointed certain players, in particular because of his new graphic engine and animation, because it is true until the vessels " stick to the route" ! What is noticed in particular on one of the circuit equipped with a loop. But in counterpart, three innovations make their appearances: the possibility of improving the characteristics of its racing car while paying with the money which one gains in the races, the choice of the pilot whom one incarnates, and the " mode; Zone". This episode occurs in year 2160 on the circuits from the F9000 League.

Pure WipEout

This episode occurs in year 2197, on the circuits of League FX300.

To note that the play hides in its center the access to a navigator Internet, a first for the PSP. This pseudo-navigator Internet is primarily present to allow the remote loading of new circuits and vessels, of the extensions, which makes it possible to extend the lifespan of the play.

WipEout Pulsates

WipEout Pulse is the continuation of WipEout Pure , planned for September 2007 on PSP. Among the awaited innovations, the player should be able to control his vessel on a vertical surface and to carry out loops thanks to the function " Mag-Strip" (which makes it possible the vessel to remain stuck to the track). A Photo Mode must also make it possible to take stereotypes of the vessels during the race.
