- Tara Lipinski becomes the youngest Olympic champion at the time of Plays of winter after its victory in the contest of Figure skating at the 15 years age.
- Norwegian Bjørn Dæhlie gains three gold medals in Ski touring and thus carries its total to twelve medals including eight of gold.
- During the descent, the Austrian skier Hermann Maier makes a spectacular fall. It does not prevent it from gaining a few days later the Superone and the giant slalom.
- the Czech Republic gains for the first time the Olympic title in Hockey.
- the Snowboard makes its entry with the Olympic program.
