Winter Olympics of 1964

The IXe Winter Olympics took place in 1964 with Innsbruck in Austria.

Organization

The towns of Lahti in Finland and Calgary with the Canada were also candidates.

The lack of snow failed to penalize these Olympic Games, the army was put at contribution so that all the tests proceed correctly.

  • Lidiya Skoblikova gains for the the USSR the four female tests of Speed skating.
  • the Italian Eugenio Monti will receive the first Médaille Pierre de Coubertin of Sportivité to have replaced a defective nut of the Bobsleigh of the team of Great Britain, which will enable them to gain the competition.
  • the Frenchwoman Christine Goitschel gains the slalom in front of his/her sister Marielle Goitschel. Two days later, Marielle precedes his/her Christine sister in the giant slalom. This " double doublé" of two sisters is single in annals of the Olympic Games.
