Striking facts
- the International Olympic committee interdict with the skiing instructors, considered as professionals, to take part the Alpine skiing proof, sport lately introduced with the Olympic program. This decision caused the anger of the Swiss skiers and Austrians who boycotted the tests.
- the Alpine skiing thus makes its entry with the program of the plays. The first descent of the history is gained by the Norwegian Birger Ruud, who is… skijumper! It does not gain however a medal since at that time it was about a compound, i.e. the association of a descent and a slalom (he finishes fourth with final). A few days more trard, Birger Ruud gain, much more logically, a gold medal in Ski jump.
- Feeling on the skating rink! By aligning a team made up of Canadians, Great Britain is essential vis-a-vis Canada at the time of the tournament of hockey.
- Sonja Henie (Norway) gains a third consecutive Olympic title in Figure skating.
