Winners of the Bastille

The Winners of the Bastille were those which took part in the storming of the Bastille the July 14th 1789. A study of Raymonde Monnier shows that 69% of its members are workers of the Faubourg Saint-Anthony.

Those created an association which comprised statutes and payments. Just like war veterans, they took share with the civic festivals and raised on their chest a mural copper crown used like decoration. The winners of the Bastille were distinguished from the other revolutionists by the port from a badge having for currency Ignorant Datos quisquam serviat enses , each one held a seal coppers some representing the towers of the Bastille.

The constituent Assembly provides them a uniform as well as an armament. On the gun of rifle and the blade of the saber this sentence was engraved: “Given by the Nation to…, victorious of the Bastille”.

At the time of the Festival of the Federation the July 14th 1790, one held the places of honor for them.

The months passing, they were prone to the mocking remarks because they too often re-sifted their heroic gesture at the time of this day of July 14th, 1789.
