Wingman

Wingman ( ウイングマン , uinguman ) is a Manga of Masakazu Katsura. Partially published into French by Manga Player, six volumes were translated on thirteen volumes. Adapted in cartoon.

Humorous series and of combat, réminisciente of the Sentai S, it shows how a simple schoolboy carries out his dream, and includes/understands the limits and constraints of them.

Short summary of the history

Kenta (David), schoolboy, has as a pastime to be disguised in “Wingman”, combined justice, and to make morals with the pupils who sleep during the courses. What attracts many troubles near the professors to him, even of the other pupils.

One day, whereas it precisely has just decided to stop this puerile behavior, an young girl, Aoi (Elects), falls literally from the sky. Coming from another dimension, called “  Powdreams  ” (“  Podorimusu  ”), it has the “  book of the rêves  ” (“  dreamnote  ”), book which makes real all that one writes inside. Allured by the fictitious character of Wingman, it offers this book to Kenta (David) so that he becomes really a hero and the assistance to save his country, under the cut of the dictator Rimel (Gédéon).

During the history, various friends of Kenta (David) will acquiéreront capacities to help it.

Characters

  • Kenta Hirono () (in French David Duchemin): main character. Impassioned by justice, he invented the character of “Wingman”, combined justice, and manufactured itself an adequate costume. The meeting with Aoi and especially the book of the dreams (dreamnote) enable him really to become this character, and to make real all its weapons. He however quickly realizes that it is necessary for him also to be involved to know to use the techniques of Wingman advisedly, which the dreamnote cannot give him.
  • Aoi (アオイ) (in French Elects): coming from Podorimusu (in French Podrim), she east flees to escape Rimel (in French Gédéon). His/her father is the king of the country. With its “dimensional capacity”, it can change the memories of human, make Télékinésie, etc Initialement skeptic in front of the behavior of Kenta, it however helps it with really becoming a hero.
  • Miku Ogawa () (in French Sophie Nougatine): in the same class that Kenta, it rejects its behavior which disturbs the courses, while liking it. To save it Kenta changes in front of it, and its secrecy acknowledges to him. In exchange to have protected the dreamnote, she asks the father of Aoi to give him capacities to help Wingman.

Publication and cartoon

Published between 1982 and 1985 in the Magazine Shônen Jump, it is the first manga published by Masakazu Katsura.

The cartoon, carried out by Asahi television under the title “夢戦士ウイングマン” ( yume senshi uinguman , “Wingman the warrior of the dreams”), was diffused starting from 1984 and stops with the defeat of Mascara.
