Winfield Scott (June 13rd 1786 - May 29th 1866) was an American general , Diplomate and candidate with the Presidency of the United States.
It was born close to Petersburg, Virginia. His/her father was a farmer having taken part in the war of American independence and his/her mother came from a family of Virginia. His/her two parents died when it was young. Scott studied in William and Mary College, before studying the right. It practiced its lawyer trade then enlisted at the time of the Guerre of 1812. It was promoted with the rank of lieutenant colonel, then of general major.
National Héro after the américano-Mexican War, he is military governor of Mexico City. It is with this man that in 1852, the Parti Whig gives its nomination for the race to the presidency of the United States. Scott will lose against the Démocrate Franklin Pierce, but will remain a popular national figure, receiving in 1856 its promotion with the row of general Lieutenant, it is first American, since George Washington, high with this rank.
