It is about one of oldest the Vignoble S of France located in the area of Saint-Pourçain-on-Sioule whose origins go back to the Gallo-Romans.

One finds in a bacchic text Moyen-âge, discovered by Achille Jubinal ( Nouveau collection of tales, said, French tale in verse and other new parts of 13th, 14th and 15th centuries ) in a Poème entitled Desputoison of the Wine and water , a reference to the wines of Saint-Pourçain, who indicates:

" Por this named sui Saint-Porçain
Because I sui holy, good, cler and healthy ".

After be usedbeing been used for the court of several kings de France, the wine of Saint-Pourçain knew more difficult moments, in particular because of the crisis of the Phylloxera.

Since about thirty years, efforts are carried out by the wine growers for the improvement of encépagement, as well as the modernization of the methods of culture and wine making. The vineyard of Saint-Pourçain extends from now on on 600 hectares and 19 communes and its production is classified in label of origin VDQS since 1951. The request for classification in AOC is often with the day order. The wine trail makes it possible to go to the meeting wine growers, who they are vine growers independent - there exists a score of cellars particular - or gathered within the Union of the vine growers (140 owners).

Since 1987, the Union of the vine growers carries out a red wine early product sold in a bottle decorated by a draftsman (the first was Piem) who is called " the String ". For a few years, a white first has been also tasted on this occasion.
