Synopsis
The film recalls the epopee of the Indians Navajos recruited by the American army during the Second world war and assigned to the posts of radio operator operators. The use of their rare language made safe the communications, the Japanese being in the incapacity to translate the messages which they intercepted. For their protection, or rather that of the code, they each one are affublés of an guardian angel (Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater). These guardian angels must absolutely protect the life from these Navajo. But if there exists any then risks that their Navajo falls between the hands from the Japanese, the guardian angel must be transformed into exterminating angel: the code should be protected at all costs.
This film recalls the battles of the Japanese island of Saipan in July 1944.
Comment
Behind the emphase of the spectacle, the interest of film lies in the glance which John Woo carries, itself Asian immigrant in the United States, on the course of two Navajos to the dubious but décomplexée American identity. For the remainder, one finds all the style of John Woo: spectacular and violent scenes of action, use attends symmetrical idles, structures of the situations, consumption incredible of ammunition. Only seem to miss with the call the traditional doves, perhaps because it is about a film of war…

Around film
Several scenes of film could not be turned. The Pentagone, which brought a very active collaboration, is indeed opposite there. For example, the scenario writer wished to insert a scene where a Marine tore off the gold teeth in the mouth of a dead Japanese soldier. He had wanted to do that after having seen a similar scene in a film of files.
