Winds is a Norwegian group of neo-classic metal /progressive formed in 1998. Their music, built around the keyboard of Andy Winter and the solos of Carl August Tidemann, is largely influenced by the classical music. The words, composed by Andy, treat above all cosmos and the existence through various concepts animating each album independently. Winds is for the moment only one studio group.

History

The Winds group was born when 4 Norwegian of various musical roots crossed with the liking of various collaborations which led to a mutual agreement. The musicians were already famous within their speciality: Lars Eric So as a singer with the single voice, Carl August Tidemann as a neo-classic guitarist virtuoso, a Jan Axel von Blomberg alias Hellhammer as a most famous beater of extreme metal and finally Andy Winter as a pianist inspired by the traditional one.

Whereas the group signed in 2000 the EP " Off Entity and Mind" , the label Avantgarde Music offered a contract for two albums to them. Without consulting of another label, the group accepted. Consituant an alchemy ever seen before between progressive metal and classical music, this first EP was accommodated with the honors by the community.

Whereas criticisms positive rained, Winds prepared already its second album, " Reflections off the I". This one was published in America by the label The End Records with the agreement of Avantgarde Music. Being born in 2002, this album accepted unanimous criticisms on its great quality in all the magazines devoted to this particular style.

As previously, the group worked already actively with the realization of its third album, " The Imaginary Direction off Time". Released their obligations towards Avantgarde Music, Winds threw its reserved on the label The End Records, prompt to offer an new agreement to him. The members signed thus without hesitation for three additional albums, in spite of the interest of other companies.

During the production of the album, the lines of battery were recorded in first, were followed first ideas for the guitar and the piano which would be re-recorded later. Engaged in other projects, turns and recordings, the members let spend one year before returning in Winds when these projects were carried out, suspended or given up. Winds was again a priority for all and the production was finished in Toproom and Fagerborg in Norway, the mixing taking place in The Factory of Vancouver.

" The Imaginary Direction off Time" the style of the group carried towards new heights, as well musicalement as on the level of the words, from now on charged in philosophy. Very elegant, full with maturity, the album interferes good manners the excellent individual performances and collective work. The members agree to indicate it like more opened out. A fourth album, called to be most ambitious and most melody of the Norwegian formation, is in hand and should be born at the beginning of 2007. It will be produced in a church out of wooden built in 1776 selected for its stamp.

Music

The music of Winds officiates in a traditional register constant by a string quartet (an viola, two violins, a violoncello) and in which come intriquer the technical solos from Carl August Tidemann, using the harmonies much. True guitar hero, it is not either miserly in emotions. The cords are arranged by the singer Lars Eric If, also bass player, who makes profit the group from a clear voice impressed of softness. The piano of Andy Winter is omnipresent and constitutes the base of the melodies, the man being besides the author of the concept of Winds. The communion of these musicians creates a progressive music very lyric, slow and posed, slightly sinks even pessimistic but lighting on several occasions.
