Winburg

Winburg (city of the discussions) is small a Ville of South Africa, located in the Province of the State-Free (free State of Orange). It is located on the Autoroute N1 connecting Johannesburg to the Cape. It counts nearly 12.000 inhabitants.

The city was founded the October 16th 1836 between the river Vaal and Rivers by Andries Pretorius and Hendrik Potgieter. It is the first city founded in the free Orange state by the Voortrekkers. It was the seat of the first micro state boer before being annexed in 1848 by the British authorities of the Colonie of the Cape then to finally join the free Orange State in 1852.

Winburg is the place where is located the second Voortrekker Monument country after that of Pretoria. It was built close to the house where had been born the president Martinus Steyn.

Winburg was also selected like site of the Parlement of the free Orange state. During the Guerre of Boers, it was also the site of a Concentration camp where were locked up women and children boers who died there per thousands, of Malnutrition and of dissenteries.

The name of the black Township of the city east Mackeleketla.
