WinMX

WinMX is a free program, of type Peer-to-peer , allowing the data processing exchange of information.

Description

The characteristic of WinMX is that it makes it possible to connect the users to several networks of peer-to-peer at the same time. It is thus possible to exchange files through various networks, which increases in a considerable way the number of files available.

The Fall of WinMX

September 21st, 2005, the network and Web site of WinMX were officially put off line, because of several complaints carried in front of American justice. September 13rd, 2005, the creator of the WinMX network, “FrontCode Tecnologies”, had received on behalf of the Recording Industry Association off America (RIAA) a letter requiring of them to install a type of filter making it possible to exclude from the network any unauthorized file (i.e. files protected by laws from copyright including songs and vidéos) or the pure and simple closing of the WinMX service.

Rebirth of WinMX

The popularity of WinMX gave place to an appearance of several patchs to ensure the continuous operation of the network. One can from now on continue to use the WinMX network after having obtained such a software (see the bonds below) while connecting oneself to new databases (necessary so that the software can function) created following the closing of those of the WinMX network.

The official site of WinMX is closed the September 21st 2005, following the request for RIAA. It should be installed a patch so that the software continues to function.
