Wimmis is a common Suisse of the Canton of Bern, located in the District of Niedersimmental. The blazon of Wimmis represents the castle of Wimmis.

The name Wimmis comes from the Latin “vindemias” describing the proximity of vineyards.

Geography

Wimmis is located at 629m with the top of the sea level in the Bernese Oberland at joining of the rivers Kander and Simme. The adjacent communes, are started in north in the direction of the needles of a watch: Spiez, Aeschi EIB Spiez, Reichenbach im Kandertal, Diemtigen and Reutigen.

History

At the time Roman, the place was called Vindemias .

The first mention of Wimmis goes back to the year 994 under the name of Windmis in a document of the Berthe queen.
