William Wordsworth (April 7th 1770 - April 23rd 1850) is a British Poète . He launches, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the romantic period of the English literature during the publication of Lyrical Ballads (1798). Its showpiece is The Prelude , an autobiographical poem of its youth.

Biography

It is born with Cockermouth (Cumberland), second of an family of five children. To died of his/her mother in 1778, his/her father sends it to Hawkshead Grammar School. In 1783 when his/her father dies, it leaves a thin heritage to its descendants.

It enters to the St John' S College of Cambridge in 1787. In 1790, it goes in France and supports the republican French revolution. It obtains its diploma the following year, without mention, then share for a turn of Europe including the the Alps and the Italy. It falls in love with a Frenchwoman, Annette Vallon, with which it has a Caroline child, born on December 15th 1792, with Orleans. The same year lack of money the constrained one to turn over, only, to Great Britain.

Shown to be Of Gironde, the reign of Terror makes him take its distances with the French republican movement, moreover the war between France and the Great Britain prevents it from re-examining its wife and her daughter.

It is in 1793 that it publishes its first poems in the collections An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches . It receives a gift of £900 of Raisley Calvert in 1795 what enables him to continue to write, and to settle with his sister with Racedown. It meets Samuel Taylor Coleridge with Somerset this same year. The two poets quickly become close friends.

In 1797, Wordsworth and its sister, Dorothy, move in Somerset with a few kilometers of the house of Coleridge with Nether Stowey. Together they produce Lyrics Ballads (1798), an important work for the British romantic movement. One of the most known poems of Wordsworth, Tintern Abbey is published in this collection like Ancient Mariner of Coleridge.

Wordsworth, Dorothy and Coleridge go to Germany. During the winter 1798-1799, Wordsworth lives with Goslar and starts to write an autobiographical part: The Is a prelude to . His/her sister and return to him to Great Britain to Grasmere, in “Lake District” of England, not far from the place of residence of Robert Southey. Wordsworth, Southey and Coleridge then start to be known like the “poets of Lake”.

In 1802, it travels to France with Dorothy to re-examine Annette and Caroline. It Marie then with her cousin, Mary Hutchinson. Dorothy does not appreciate this marriage but continuous with living with the couple. The following year Mary gives rise to the first of their five children, John.

The social relations and the health of Wordsworth mark the beginning of its decline in 1804. When Napoleon becomes Empereur of the French, the last dreams of liberalism of Wordsworth collapse, it is depicted then like a conservative. He works this year enormously what enables him to finish The Prelude in 1805, but he will improve it continuously and the collection will be published only after its death. The death of his/her brother John this year will have a great influence on him.

In 1807, its Poems in Two Volumes is published including Ode: Intimations off Immortality from Recollections off Early Childhood . For a time, Wordsworth and Coleridge moved away one from the other because of the addiction of this last for opium.

Two of his/her children, John and Catherine, die in 1812. The following year, it moves in with Rydal Mount, Ambleside where it will pass the remainder of its life. It publishes The Excursion in 1814 which must be the second part of a trilogy. The modern critics recognize a decline in its work, particularly those which it starts to write in the middle of the years 1810.

Dorothy falls seriously sick in 1829 what leaves it invalid for the remainder of his life. In 1835, Wordsworth pours a pension with Annette and Caroline. The government grants to him a civil pension of an amount of £3000 per annum in 1842.

With died of Robert Southey, in 1843, Wordsworth becomes a Poet Laureate. When his/her daughter, Gilded, dies in 1847, it stops writing temporarily. Wordsworth dies in 1850 with Rydal Mount and is buried with St Oswald' S Church, Grasmere. Mary publishes its long autobiographical poem, The Prelude , several months after its death.

The life of Wordsworth and Coleridge, and in particular their collaboration for Lyrics Ballads , are in the middle of the film Pandaemonium (2000).
