honourable the William Smithe (born the June 30th 1842, deceased the March 28th 1887) was a Politician britanno-Colombian.
Smithe was born in Great Britain, but immigrates with the Canada in its youth and is established on the Vancouver Island in 1862 as farmer. In 1871 he is candidate in the first general election of the Colombia-British and gains a seat with the news provincial legislature. In 1875, it becomes, in an abstract way, the chief of the opposition to the government of the Prime Minister George Anthony Walkem, but it yields the direction of the opposition to Andrew Charles Elliott. Smithe is minister within the transitory cabinet of Elliott of 1876 with 1878 before turning over on the benches of the opposition to become chief of the opposition again.
In 1883, Smithe devien Prime Minister for the province and lance the era of the Great Potlach , during which the government liberally distributes public resources and grounds to private business men. It also regulates several arguments with the federal government which had blocked the construction of the transcontinental railroad the Canadian Pacific. It remains in station like Prime Minister until his death in the performance of its duties in 1887.
