William Robertson (1721-1793) was a Scottish historian.

Born with Brothwick, he was minister presbytérien, and was distinguished initially in preaching.

Responsible for a many family, he lived a long time in the embarrassment, but, having successively obtained the places of ordinary chaplain of the king, of the main thing of the college of Edinburgh and historiographer of Scotland, he ends up enjoying ease.
