William Parsons known as Lord Rose (June 17th 1800 - October 31st 1867), 3rd count de Rosse, was a rich person Astronome Irish which was made build gigantic a Télescope of the reflectors type.

This telescope measures 183 cm in diameter for approximately 17m of focal distance. The apparatus bore a name very found, considering its dimensions: the Léviathan de Parsonstown. This telescope is besides always places from there nowadays (2006). Lord Rose could make many drawings thanks to this telescope, which are strong resembling the current photographs. It is with him that one owes the denomination of Nébuleuse of the Crab, (the object M1 of the Catalog of Messier) because of nebulosities very characteristic of the object which made him think of a Crabe.

It also carried out the first drawings of many Galaxie S (then called “nebulas”), being the first to clearly highlight their morphology, in particular the structure of the spiral galaxies.
