William Merritt Drives out
William Merritt Chase (November 1st 1849 - October 25th 1916) is a American painter known for its engagement in favor of the Impressionnisme and as teacher.
It was born with Williamsburg (today Nineveh), Indiana, and becomes a pupil of B.F. Hays with Indianapolis and of Joseph Oriel Eaton with New York as well as A. Wagner and of Karl von Piloty with Munich.
It installs in New York its own school after having taught a few years with the Art Students League. He works on all supports: Oil-base paint, Pastel, Ink. Its topics are numerous: landscapes, died natures, portraits; but it is those which make it famous, of many personalities wishing to become its models.
Hunting gains many honors and becomes a member of the National Academy off Design, New York, it directs off during ten years the Society American Artists. He becomes member of the Ten American Painters after the death of John Henry Twachtman.
