William Merlaud-Ponty

William Merlaud-Ponty is a French politician, born on February 4th, 1866 with Rochefort (Charente-Lower) and deceased on June 13rd, 1915 with Dakar (Senegal). It was general governor of the Africa Occidentale French of 1908 to 1915. It was interested particularly during its mandate in economic development of the AOF and education in Africa.

Biography

At the time of the First World War, William Ponty was charged to recruit African volunteers for the battle fields.
