William Johnson Sollas (May 30th 1849 - October 20th 1936) is a geologist and British paleontologist .
He studies in City off London School, Royal School off Mines and the St John' S College of Cambridge. From 1789 to 1883 he works with the University College of Bristol-board then to the Trinity College until 1897 or he obtains the pulpit of geology of the Université of Oxford. Solas is elected member of the Royal Society in 1889, president of the Geological Society off London of 1908 to 1910. it receives the Médaille Bigsby in 1893, the Médaille Wollaston in 1907 and the royal Médaille in 1914.
Solas is before any geologist but it carries out research in several other fields, it indexes the sponges collected at the time of the voyage of the Challenger, publishes on the reptiles, the Pétrologie and the Minéralogie.
The name of Solas is evoked in the business of the Homme of Piltdown as one of the possible counterfeiters by Beverly Halstead but the following year it retracts, it exists only little of support for this theory nowadays.
