William Hewson

William Hewson (November 14th 1739 May 1st 1774) is a surgeon, Anatomiste and British Physiologiste , sometimes called the father of the Hématologie .

It is born on November 14th, 1739 with Hexham in the county from Northumberland. He studies as from 1753 with the Newcastle-upon-Tyne with Richard Lambert, founder of the Newcastle Infirmary which becomes later the Royal Victoria Infirmary . As from winter 1761/1762 he works with William Hunter initially as student then as assistant.

Its major discovery is the discovery of the Fibrine, a key Protéine in the process of coagulation of blood. It also contributes to the comprehension of the lymphatic Système by showing the existence of lymphatic vessels in the animals and by explaining their function, work which is worth to him the Médaille Copley in 1769. It proves the form punt of the érythrocyte S rather than spherical supposed by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. In 1773 it produces evidence of the existence of a cellular Membrane for the érythrocytes although this work is largely ignored at the time.

The July 10th 1770 it Marie with Mary Stevenson (more known under the nickname of Polly), a friend of Benjamin Franklin. As from September 1772, after a conflict with Hunter on the paternity of some discovered, Hewson melts its own school to the 36 Craven Street, house the Franklin one in London, which became a museum, the Benjamin Franklin House . He dies on May 1st 1774 of a Septicémie contracted at the time of the dissection of a corpse.

The work of Hewson is continued by Magnus Falconar, the husband of the sister of Hewson. Falconar repeats the experiments of Hewson and republishes its work at the same time as its own confirmations in 1777
