William Henry Perkin

Sir William Henry Perkin (March 12th 1838 with London - July 14th 1907 with Sudbury) is a Chimiste English which discovered by chance the Mauvéine.

In 1856, whereas it tried to synthesize the Quinine to fight the Paludisme, it oxidized a derivative of the Aniline, the allyltoluidine. It obtained a red-brown precipitate then, good dye for the textiles, which it called mauvéine (or aniline crimson). He was prize winner of the Royal Medal in 1879, and the Royal Society decreed the Davy Médaille to him in 1889.

It was anobli in 1906.
