William Hamilton Maxwell

William Hamilton Maxwell (1792 - 1850) is a Romancier Irish of Scottish ascent.

Biography

Born with Newry, it makes its studies at the university of Dublin as raises Trinity College. After its studies, it joined the army and takes part in the combat of the war of Spain (1808-1814) and of the Bataille of Waterloo. It enters the orders then but is seen revoked for absenteeism.

Work

Its novels, O' Hara and Stories from Waterloo (Accounts of Waterloo), launch a new kind: the burlesque military novel, which will reach its apogee with works of Charles Lever. Maxwell also writes Life off the Duke off Wellington (1839-1841) ( Vie of Arthur Wellesley, first Duc of Wellington ), like History off the Irish Rebellion (Histoire of the Irish rebellion) of 1798 (1845), illustrated by George Cruikshank.
