William Cowper , born with Petersfield in the Sussex towards 1666 and dead the March 8th 1709, is a surgeon and Anatomiste English, famous for its description of what one currently calls the gland of Cowper.
In March 1682, he is the apprentice of William Bignall, a London surgeon . In 1691, it is allowed To boreit S Company and starts to exert in London the same year. In 1694, it publishes its famous work, Myotomia Reformata, gold has New Administration off the Muscles , and he becomes member of the Royal Society in 1696. In 1698, it publishes The Anatomy off the Humane Bodies , which got a great notoriety to him. During eleven years which follow, it publishes going number of texts on subjects of the Chirurgie to the Pathologie, the Physiologie and the Anatomie.
Anatomy off the Humane Bodies one off the greatest acts off Plagiarism in all off medical publishing, though nap cuts not been ace harsh. In 1685, Govard Bidloo (1649-1713) published his Anatomia Humani Corporis in Amsterdam using 105 beautiful punts drawn by Gerard de Lairesse (1640-1711) and engraved by Abraham Blooteling (1640-1690). With Dutch version was later printed in 1690, entitled Ontleding of Menschelyken Lichaams , goal when dirty went poorly, Bidloo' S publishers sold 300 copies off the unbound punts to William Cowper (gold his publishers).
Cowper proceeded to Write has new English text to accompany the punts, many off them showing has off great deal original research and fresh new insights. He also commissioned nine new punts drawn by Henry Cook (1642-1700) and engraved by Michiel van der Gucht (1660-1725), among which were face and back views off the entire musculature. The book was then published under Cowper' S name with No mention off Bidloo gold Lairesse, with the original engraved, allegorical title page amended with year irregular part off paper lettered: " The anatomy off the humane bodies…, " which fits over the Dutch title.
With number off vitriolic exchanges took place between Bidloo and Cowper, including several lampoons published in each anatomist' S defense. Cowper claimed, without much obviousness presented, that the punts were not Bidloo' S At all, goal that they were commissioned by Jan Swammerdam (1637-1680) and that after his death Swammerdam' S widow had sold them to Bidloo. Whatever the truth may Be, it is undeniable that Cowper has involvement great anatomist and sucker in his own right- and that He clearly did not give Govard Bidloo proper credit for his in this work. -->
