William Cecil

William Cecil (September 13rd 1521, Lincolnshire - August 4th 1598), first baron de Burghley was Secretary of State under Edouard {{VI}} of England then Elisabeth {{Ire}} of England and large treasurer of England.
He was elected twice member of the Parliament, pointed out himself by firmness and the independence of its opinions, was named Secretary of State by Elisabeth in 1558, assembled a Parliament where one dealt with plan of reform in the religion, and had the greatest part with the establishment of the 39 articles which form the base of this reform.
In 1588, it concludes an advantageous treaty for the England, between Elisabeth and the States of Holland. Elisabeth, to reward it for her services, created it baron de Burghley.
His/her son is Robert Cecil.
