William Cavendish (1st duke of Devonshire)

William Cavendish (January 25th 1640 - August 18th 1707), count, then Duke of Devonshire.

It was pointed out under Jacques II of England by a sharp opposition; it was one of the most active promoters of the revolution which reversed this prince and who placed on the throne William of Orange; it in reward was created duke, and was appointed intendant.

It was under Anne one of the police chiefs charged to carry out the meeting of the Scotland to the England.
